Assignment Policy
Occupancy
All applicants are considered for apartment assignments based on the following:
- Student or Faculty/Staff eligibility status.
- Application date.
- Date of desired occupancy.
- Area and specifications desired.
- Amount of notice needed.
Student applicants are given first priority on the waiting list for East/West Village or Medical Plaza with faculty and staff applicants being given second priority. Therefore, all student applicants are considered for an apartment before any faculty/staff applicants.
The approximate waiting period varies depending on the type and size of the apartment. Current wait list estimates are listed on the home page (www.apartments.utah.edu) on the right side column.
Apartment assignments to the East or West Village and Medical
Plaza are generally made 2-4 weeks prior to the date the apartment
is available for occupancy. As a result, applicants are unable
to see the actual apartment before accepting an apartment assignment.
Model apartments may be available for viewing.
All applications are subject to review before acceptance. A $25.00 non-refundable application fee must be submitted before the application can be processed. By submitting this application, you authorize us to obtain any and all information needed for the approval process, including, but not limited to, a credit bureau report.
WE CANNOT GUARANTEE AN APARTMENT ASSIGNMENT BY YOUR DESIRED DATE OF OCCUPANCY. Applicants are placed on the waiting list as of the date the non-refundable application fee is paid. Failure to completely fill out or sign an application can delay this process. Waiting periods can change according to the number of current residents moving out. The more specific your apartment requirements, the longer you will wait for an apartment. The waiting list is separated into a student list, and a faculty/staff list, with student applicants receiving priority over faculty/staff.
YOU MUST ACCEPT THE FIRST APARTMENT OFFERED TO YOU, or you will be placed at the bottom of the waiting list. Apartments are offered based on the apartment preferences listed on your application. ALL APARTMENT ASSIGNMENTS ARE OFFERED VIA EMAIL. If you do not have an email address Student Apartments will contact you by telephone. Student Apartments suggests that all applicants call the Assignments Coordinator (801-581-6988) 30-45 days prior to their desired move-in date for an update on their position on the waiting list. Student Apartments is not responsible for correspondence which does not reach you when emailed or mailed to the address listed on your application or your latest written address update. If you have not been assigned an apartment by your requested occupancy date, please contact our office.
Failure to respond to emails from the Assignments Coordinator will result in your application being listed as inactive.
At the time you accept an apartment assignment you must pay the security deposit. Your application will then be removed from all waiting lists.
If you refuse an apartment after paying rent or the security deposit, your application will be canceled and the entire amount paid will be forfeited. Failure to pay rent for the apartment on your assigned move-in date will be considered a refusal of the assignment and a forfeiture of all amounts paid.
