1-Report

Programs—
Sprinkler Day-Everything is ready to go for July 1st. Tom Hammerstrom and Lianne met in the bowl and went over placement of the slide and which sprinklers to use. Tom made a water distributor out of PVC pipe for the top of the slide. There will be at least two kiddie pools and the small slide. Lianne turned in the receipt for the slide and Melanie is picking up the otter pops on Wednesday. This will be the last expense for this activity and this fiscal year. New banners will go up today to advertise and a bulletin should be put up on Thursday.

Movies on the Lawn-Tim Harrison, the Free Films Chair, is purchasing the movie rights for Monsters vs. Aliens for us which is a huge deal. The rental is $800 a night and ASUU is covering all three nights. Thomas and the Non-Trad Board will bring cotton candy and snow cones and staffing for the machines. Resident Council will supply the venue, projector, screen, sound system, popcorn, and drinks. In the future we may want to consider showing a different movie at the Towers, perhaps one more suitable for that population. Another option might be to provide a shuttle for those at the Towers and Townhouses to join us in the village. Lianne will be meeting with him in the future to discuss further movie opportunities.

Union Programming Council (UPC) would like to collaborate on a couple of events this year. Events that might appeal to our residents would be a Spookfest in October, a Crimson Night activity, Date Night in February or March. In addition, residents have really enjoyed bowling at the Union. They will discuss it and see if they can help out with that activity.

Thomas Jarvis, the Non-Trad Board Chair is excited about our idea to provide the information seminars over a week’s time instead of one topic a month. His board will be talking to the different groups on campus to see who could come and meet with our residents. He would like our input on any topics that we feel the residents would like to learn about. I gave him a resident’s idea about women’s health issues. Valerie will also be working with Thomas and the RA’s to include our community in the homecoming activities this fall.

Raging Water tickets have been purchased and will be sent to Lianne.

Finance— There are a few outstanding printing orders that have not cleared. This year’s budget went over about two hundred dollars which was approved by Rick for the purchase of Raging Waters tickets. This year we need to stay within budget.

Facilities— Melissa brought a draft Food Co-op sign informing residents that orders will no longer be accepted at the Main Office beginning in September. The sign will go up this week. Valerie will meet with Shaea, the new volunteer Food Co-op contact, on Friday.
Melissa will contact residents who have not planted their gardens and inform them that if they don’t contact her within 24 hours, their plot will be forfeited. Melissa will give unclaimed plots to the next person on the waiting list. Those purchasing the forfeited plots will receive a form from Melissa and will need to take the form to the cashier to pay the five dollar fee. Melissa should notify the cashier of the name and apartment of the resident she issues a new plots to.
Melissa brought a copy of the upcoming newsletter for proof reading and suggestions.
Melissa contacted Aileen Tamez about the dance class and got the process going. It looks like the dance class will be Tuesday nights at 5:00 pm beginning in July and ending August 11th. Aileen will have to pick up a key for the West Community Center and drop if off every Tuesday since the key attendant doesn’t start until 6:00 pm.

Mayor—The 1400 court RA found a resident interested in being on “The Village People”. Trina will email her some more information and copy it to Evan Papa, an RA also interested, along with the rest of Resident Council.
Marci is going to research volleyball nets and volleyballs as a potential item for the Village People “Special Projects”.  Other potential items are barricades that Resident Council and Resident Assistants can use along with Emergency Equipment needed in a natural disaster.
Resident Council meetings will begin at 8:15 am. in the future. July meetings will be July 1, 8, and 22.
Trina will talk to Lianne about donating the leftover hot dogs and hamburgers to Resident Assistants.

Office Input— Parking lots are coming along and staying on schedule.
Roof projects will begin in the fall.
The 500 court C building is closed while the balcony is being repaired. Engineers are looking at all the building and studies should be forthcoming.
Now that it is summer, questions are beginning to arise concerning the gate that connects Sunnyside Park to the Village near the Maintenance Office. Access to the bridge was closed last fall due to safety concerns. The bridge is beginning to break in various locations. This bridge is not on University property and no one is claiming ownership.
Per a resident’s request, UTA has been contacted about a bus shelter near the East Village entrance. The project is waiting funding from UTA. Rick will keep us informed of the progress. Marci will update the resident concerning this matter.
