1-Report
Introduction of Advisory Board Members
Programs—Overall the September 19, 2009 Block Party was flawless. The ice cream might have seen more use if it was closer to the other activities. A barricade sign directing people towards the food might be helpful in the future. At the end of the event some volunteers started handing out extra prizes; ideally we would have saved them for another event. In the future, Resident Council needs to clearly inform the volunteers about expectations and procedures. .
The ASUU sponsored Child Care Seminar will be Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 7:00 pm. in the West Community Center. Kris Hale from the Child Care Coordinating Center will lead the seminar about child care options.
Spookfest will be Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Union Building from 4-6 pm. Resident Council will collaborate on this event with Union Programs Council. Resident Council is in charge of carnival games. Some ideas include a cake walk, pin the witch, Halloween mystery game, and pumpkin pond. Union Program Council will make 300 bulletin and 950 door-to-door fliers. Resident Council will create the barricade banners.
The University of Utah football game against Brigham Young University is on November 28, 2009 at 3:00 PM. Programs will set up the big screen and provide chili in the East Community Center. The Resident Council Santa activity will be Saturday, December 12, 2009. Lianne has booked the community centers.
Finance— Marci updated us on budget figures. Marci will meet Thursday, September 24, 2009 with the Publication Council to review Resident Council funding for publications.
Marci will attend for the ASUU budget workshop on Friday, September 25, 2009. She will begin working on the budget request for additional funding from ASUU due October 2, 2009.
Facilities— Melissa has the gardens clean up flyers. She will start working on getting those ready to deliver to individuals with garden plots.
Melissa will keep us updated regarding the campus order from HRE for rental of the inflatable movie screen.
The Food Co-op is this week. Melissa will have canopies from maintenance delivered for the October distribution, subject to weather, since there is a date conflict with a resident birthday party.
Melissa emailed Aileen, one of the resident dance instructors and informed her that due to building constraints, there are no other times available for another dance class.
Melissa’s next two facilities activities are Monster Magic and Monster Muffins on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 am. and a food Co-op potluck on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in the East Community Center
Mayor—Trina will write the next News and Views. Some ideas to include are the Home Buying Seminar, the Food Co-op potluck, and the Utah vs. BYU football game.
Trina will email Nelson Barrs and let him know the number of flyers they will need to provide and the deadline dates. Trina will also ask what time the seminar is and then email that information to Liz so she can have the banners made. Melissa will open the East Community Center on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Trina will open the West Community Center on Thursday, November 12, 2009.
Office Input— Effective October 1, 2009, limited purchase checks will no longer be issued for reimbursement. Resident Council is encouraged to use the Resident Life purchasing card for most purchases. Petty cash reimbursement will also be available. The office will clarify procedures and forms by October 1, 2009.
